Pinto beans turned the water black?

I am cooking a pot of pinto beans in the crockpot. I soaked them overnight then I emptied the water they soaked it and rinsed them off with fresh water a bit. So an hour later as they are cooking, I stirred them and it turned the water really really dark, like almost black.

Is this normal for pinto beans? I'm afraid the black water is going to make them taste nasty.

Kelsea--- Your beans will be ok. I have had that happen to me. I think that the really dark beans have been in storage a long time. But it don't seem to affect the taste. But I switched to the brand name [Casserole Pinto Beans] and have had no more dark beans. They are packed by Russel E. Womack Inc. Lubbock, Texas
And I found them at walmart. I hope this solves your problem it did mine. jim b
